I’m Running for Howell School Board

Earlier this summer, I was honored to be appointed to serve on the Howell Public Schools Board of Education. Since joining the Board, I’ve spent a lot of time listening, learning, asking questions, reviewing information, and getting an even deeper look at the opportunities and challenges facing our schools.

Now, I’m excited to officially announce that I’m running for Howell School Board in the 2026 election and asking Howell voters for the opportunity to continue serving.

Why I’m Running

I believe strong public schools are one of the most important investments we make in our children and our community.

As a Howell parent and community member, I’ve had the opportunity to see our schools from many different perspectives over the years. Now, serving as a trustee has given me another one.

What continues to stand out to me is that there is no single definition of success for every student.

Some students will head to a four-year university. Others will choose a community college, skilled trade, apprenticeship, military service, or go directly into the workforce. Some students need additional academic support or special education services. Others find their place through athletics, music, theater, clubs, career programs, or experiences outside the traditional classroom.

Our job is to make sure students have strong foundations and meaningful opportunities to discover what comes next for them.

That means strong academics and high expectations. It means supporting students who need additional help and recognizing that barriers should not determine a child's future. It means investing in excellent educators and staff, creating safe and positive schools, offering multiple pathways to success, partnering with families and our community, and being responsible stewards of the resources entrusted to the district.

Those are the things I want to help protect, strengthen, and continue building in Howell Public Schools.

How I Approach the Role

One thing I’ve gained an even greater appreciation for since joining the Board is just how much there is to learn.

School boards deal with everything from student achievement and curriculum to budgets, facilities, policies, staffing, safety, and long-term planning. At the same time, a Board member's role is not to run the day-to-day operations of the district.

I take that distinction seriously.

I believe my job is to come prepared, do my homework, ask thoughtful questions, listen to different perspectives, and make decisions with both students and the long-term health of our schools in mind.

I don't expect everyone to agree on every issue. I do believe people deserve to know that their perspective was heard and that the people making decisions took the responsibility seriously.

That is the kind of Board member I work to be.

A Voice for Every Student

Above all, I want to be a voice for every student.

Not just the students whose experiences look like my own family's. Not just the students who are thriving or whose accomplishments are easy to see. Every student.

Success will not look exactly the same for every child, and neither will the support they need along the way.

I want Howell Public Schools to be a place where students have strong academic foundations, meaningful opportunities, supportive relationships, and the skills and confidence they need to build their own futures.

And I want families to know there is a place for them in that work, too.

Continuing the Conversation

Launching this campaign is about more than asking for your vote. I also want this website to be a useful place for Howell families and community members to learn more about our schools and the decisions that affect them.

Over the coming months, I’ll share information about school funding, Board governance, student programs, district priorities, community resources, and some of the questions that come before the Board.

I’ll also share what I’m learning along the way.

Public education belongs to all of us. You don't have to currently have a child in Howell Public Schools to have a stake in the strength of our district. Strong schools matter to students and families, but they also matter to the future of our entire community.

I’m grateful for the opportunity I’ve already had to serve Howell Public Schools, and I’m excited to ask voters for the opportunity to continue that work.
